Inspiration from our u3a Members

Susan of Solent u3a

"I am always looking for ways to re-use things, mainly in my garden.  I have minimal artistic and DIY skills so the projects have had to be really easy.

"My favourite item is my daughter’s old wardrobe which was re-painted, given new garden-themed handles and had a roof added using scraps of wood and roofing felt to make a useful tool store.

"I’ve created planters out of an old washstand, a broken chiminea and an unwanted garden table (came as part of a set, I only needed the chairs). Compost and bird food bags are pierced at the bottom for drainage and used for growing potatoes."

Kath of Wyre u3a

"Our recycling group at Wyre u3a, has be running for a couple of years now.

I will never understand why more people do not understand the satisfaction we get from taking wooden pallets and transform them into wonderful items such as tables, garden benches, raised beds, bird houses, hedgehog homes and various storage.

"We have made so many things from pallet wood... this was made from old decking and is to use as a fig planter."
